The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM), located in the City of Richmond (pop. 205,000), is seeking applications from forward-thinking, proactive human resources leaders to serve as the Commonwealth’s next Director of the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM).

DHRM is the central human resource agency for state government dedicated to providing a broad range of leadership, services and guidance to the Commonwealth and its stakeholders. The Director will serve at the pleasure of the Governor and has seven direct reports over the areas of Agency Human Resource Services, Equal Employment and Dispute Resolution Services, Employee Programs, Health Benefit Services, State Employee Workers’ Compensation Services, Information Technology, and Contracts and Finance. The Director will support and value the mission and vision of the Agency to be a national leader of innovative human resource practices and will exemplify this through action and accountability.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in personnel, public administration, industrial relations, or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred. At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in personnel that includes significant management and supervisory experience is required. A background in budget, accounting or finance and public sector is beneficial but not required. Applicants may substitute an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job. PHR-SPHR and SHRM certifications a plus.

The Commonwealth of Virginia offers a competitive salary range of $146,000 - $172,500, negotiable and competitive based on experience and qualifications. In addition to the annual salary, the Commonwealth offers a comprehensive benefits package. Relocation expenses may be negotiated.
